Sofa

It’s Wednesday. No school today for Leona and Joel. For a few weeks now we have all been taking turns fighting off some form of illness – coughs, sore throats, fevers. Nothing catastrophic or eruptive. Today, Leona and Nathan are the two most affected. Also, it is overcast. All these details combined to help me make the decision to let all my kids lounge on the sofa and watch PBS.
(Side note: we usually say “couch” but I like the word “sofa” so much better. I am sure what we have is a “couch” because it is way too kid-loved to qualify for what I imagine a “sofa” to be, but I am determined to use the word “sofa”.)

So, while I am here blogging away with a delightful cup of coffee, four of my kids are being entertained by a speaking dog with an advanced vocabulary. And the fifth? Well, she just loves roaming around the living room standing, sitting, crawling, touching whatever she can get her hands on, making cute little noises.

Some Days

Some days are just hard. Today was one of those days. I want to end this day well, so let me share a few things that made me smile today.

Joel. He stayed home from school today because he wasn’t feeling well. He was in his jammies all day.

The soft rain. I actually love this kind of weather. It feels more cozy than gloomy. It makes me want to get a blanket and read a good book.

Daniel’s smile.

When Leona came home from school, I watched her put away her school things and was thinking how tall she is getting and how lovely she is.

Sigh. That feels better. Good night!

A month has meaning

It’s September 1st. I like the start of a new month. Flip the calendar. New digit when writing the date.

Joel is especially excited about September because he has calendar time at school. I am probably picking up on some of his enthusiasm. I don’t remember myself learning about the calendar, but I imagine it must be exciting to see a brand new month for the first time and really understand what it is.

I have no idea what my son is doing in this photo.  Leona took it and I wasn’t paying attention to their dialogue at the time.  I just think his expression is hilarious, adorable, loveable, cute, goofy…oops.  Got carried away there.  I love this kid!
